Important update: Rite Aid pharmacy closures and patient transition support
Jun. 2025Important Notices
The closure of Rite Aid pharmacy locations may significantly impact UPMC Health Plan members’ ability to access their medications in a timely manner.
What you need to know
- Some Rite Aid pharmacy closures are happening with little notice, and prescription files are being transferred to other pharmacies in some cases.
How you can help
- Many of our in-network pharmacies offer home delivery services, which may be helpful to UPMC Health Plan members with transportation or mobility challenges. This benefit will help your patients who are our members continue to receive their medications without disruption—especially those in rural or underserved areas. Please encourage your eligible patients to take advantage of this convenient option.
- Please advise your patients who are our members to visit the UPMC Health Plan member site to find nearby in-network pharmacy options. The website provides real-time information on preferred pharmacy locations that can help minimize your patients’ out-of-pocket costs.
- If your patients encounter issues transferring their prescriptions or locating a new pharmacy, they should contact UPMC Health Plan Member Services for assistance. Our team is equipped to support seamless transitions and resolve access issues with pharmacies.
