UPMC Health Plan Welcomes Chester Ho, MD, as Chief Medical Officer

Pittsburgh (Jan. 13, 2025) – UPMC Health Plan is pleased today to announce the appointment of Chester (Chet) Ho, MD, as Chief Medical Officer of its Insurance Services Division.

Dr. Ho brings 25 years of leadership experience in clinical care delivery and extensive managed care expertise. He is dedicated to improving health outcomes in the populations UPMC Health Plan serves through clinical, value-based care and technology innovations.

As a member of the executive management team, Dr. Ho will serve as a key thought leader and contribute to the Insurance Service Division's business strategy. He will oversee the clinical and quality programs and operations, as well as population health management strategy. In addition, he will support relationships with physicians, providers, and health systems.

Dr. Ho received his medical degree from the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago and completed his internship and residency training in pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine; St. Louis Children's Hospital; and Northwestern University School of Medicine, Children's Memorial Hospital.

Throughout his expansive career, Dr. Ho has served patients and health plan members through executive leadership roles with health systems, provider-led and national health plans, value-based management consultants, and care delivery systems, including Indiana University Health, Carle Health, AmeriHealth Caritas, Ellipsis Health, and Evolent Health. Dr. Ho has continually focused on supporting productive interactions between physicians, providers, and patients through population health strategies, clinical innovation, and analytics and technology-supported care models.

Dr. Ho most recently served as Senior Vice President and Associate Chief Medical Officer for a Philadelphia-based insurer, where he led national efforts to align medical and clinical leadership across 15 markets and advance the development of alternative payment models.
