U.S. News & World Report Names UPMC for Life a "Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage" in Pennsylvania for 2025

Pittsburgh (Nov. 12, 2024) – UPMC Health Plan today announced that its UPMC for Life Medicare Advantage (MA) product has once again been named a "Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage" in Pennsylvania for 2025 by U.S. News & World Report. This is the fourth consecutive year that UPMC for Life has earned this recognition.

To determine the top-rated insurance companies, U.S. News & World Report consulted with Medicare experts to identify and weigh the most important quality measures for Medicare Advantage consumers. It applied these weights to data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and then adjusted for enrollment. The best Medicare Advantage plans are chosen for providing good value, offering high-quality care, and offering an appealing set of benefits while keeping out-of-pocket costs low.

In addition to the U.S. News honor, for the second year in a row, UPMC for Life ranked #1 in Member Satisfaction among Medicare Advantage Plans in Pennsylvania in the J.D. Power 2023-2024 U.S. Medicare Advantage Studies of members’ satisfaction with their Medicare Advantage health plan experience.

UPMC for Life achieved its top ranking among Pennsylvania plans due in part to top scores for: resolving problems or complaints, the strength and capabilities of call center staff, earning members’ trust, and efforts to save members time or money. Plus, UPMC for Life's HMO and PPO plans have received a 4.5-star out of 5-star rating from Medicare for 2025. This rating reflects a commitment to offering access to high quality care and coverage to our members every day.

UPMC for Life's offerings for 2025 include:

• The new PPO Essential Care Rx (PPO) plan, which provides access to essential care and coverage with a $0 premium and $100 monthly Part B premium reduction.
• Options for veterans. HMO No Rx (HMO) offers a $110 monthly Part B premium reduction and lower specialist visit, lab, and x-ray copays. This plan is a good fit for those with drug coverage through the Veterans Administration. PPO Salute (PPO) works with TRICARE For Life, so members have a $0 copay for most medical benefits and coverage for vision, dental, and hearing services.
• All members who have the UPMC for Life Flex Spend Card can now use their card to pay for memberships, classes, and other fitness activities at select premier fitness locations outside the SilverSneakers® network. They can also use their card to pay for fitness kits and home safety products in 2025.
• Members will continue to receive rewards for getting the preventive care they need. Reward dollars are automatically loaded on to their UPMC for Life Flex Spend Card when they complete certain preventive screenings by Dec. 31 each year.
