UPMC Health Plan Launches Season 4's 'Good Health, Better World' Podcast with a Focus on Healthy Aging

Pittsburgh (Oct. 30, 2024) – UPMC Health Plan today announced that expert insights, research, and conversations on healthy aging are now available with the launch of the fourth season of the insurer’s “Good Health, Better World” podcast. It is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Pandora.

The 10-episode series kicks off with an in-depth interview featuring Diane Holder, president and CEO of UPMC Health Plan, sharing her perspective on navigating change as we age through the lens of population health.

"It's critically important to talk about aging because it is experienced by a large and growing segment of our population. We know it's possible for many people to live longer and healthier lives, but sometimes they need help and information and support to do that," Holder said. "I also think it's meaningful to see a podcast focus on aging issues, because whether it's using the UPMC AnywhereCare telehealth service, accessing the UPMC Health Plan app, or enjoying podcasts, today's seniors are very tech-savvy."

The podcast is hosted by Ellen Beckjord, PhD., MPH, vice president of Population Health and Clinical Optimization for UPMC Health Plan. Dr. Beckjord is a behavioral scientist, epidemiologist, and licensed clinical psychologist working at the intersection of population and digital health.

In this season, she speaks to several experts—including Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich; Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) President and CEO Ceci Connelly; UPMC Health Plan Chief Medicare Officer Angela Perri; and Dr. Aditi Gurkar, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Aging Institute—about topics such as the latest research and science surrounding healthy aging, health and wellness considerations for older adults, and the role policy plays in shaping a society that supports older adults to live their best lives.

"As our terrific guests confirm, it's never too late to make healthy changes, and there is so much we can do to help ourselves and our loved ones live longer, healthier lives,"" Beckjord said.

Season one of "Good Health, Better World" focused on social determinants of health, followed by a behavioral health focus for season two and a women’s health focus for season three. The 10 episodes of season four will be published throughout this fall.
