UPMC for Life Launches Two-Year Giant Eagle Mobile Market Initiative to Provide Weekly Access to Fresh Food in Underserved Allegheny County Communities

Pittsburgh (Aug. 26, 2024) – UPMC for Life announced a two-year Giant Eagle Mobile Market sponsorship agreement to increase weekly access to fresh, healthy food in parts of Allegheny County that are “food deserts” or otherwise impacted by health disparities.

The Giant Eagle Mobile Market provides communities of need with easy access to over 700 grocery items, including meat, dairy, frozen and dry goods. According to a 2021 FeedPGH report, nearly one in five Pittsburgh residents live with food insecurity. Food insecurity is a major social determinant of health, with low-income and people of color disproportionately affected.

The Giant Eagle Mobile Market is accessible to everyone, and UPMC for Life representatives will be providing $5 gift cards toward purchases made on the Giant Eagle Mobile Market, as well as free reusable grocery bags. Representatives from UPMC for Life will be appearing at each location to answer questions and engage with shoppers. Shoppers are eligible for a free drawing, gift, or prizes with no obligation to enroll.
