UPMC for Life Announces New Benefits for Medicare Plans for 2024 with No Premium Increases

Pittsburgh (Oct. 1, 2023) – UPMC Health Plan has announced its 2024 UPMC for Life Medicare Advantage (MA) plan offerings will have no premium increases but will expand and enhance its high-quality benefits and services to meet the "whole person" health care needs of its members.

"These plans were designed by teams who know about the needs of Pennsylvania's seniors, because we are all a part of the communities we serve. That's why our new MA plans provide not only affordable access to world-renowned health care, but also offer tools that we know empower members to get the most out of Medicare," said Angela Perri, Chief Medicare Officer, UPMC Health Plan. "Resources like our UPMC for Life Flex Spend Card let members decide where and how to spend their health care dollars, while our strong supplemental benefits, including increased dental allowances and affordable prescription drug coverage, help to keep seniors healthy and independent."

Medicare-eligible individuals can select MA coverage plans during the Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 Annual Enrollment Period. UPMC for Life's offerings for 2024 include:

• PPO plans with low-cost coverage, both in- and out-of-network, which allow members to see any provider that accepts Medicare* in the U.S.—a key flexibility for seniors who travel.
• An additional $2,000 dental allowance for most plans.
• $0 copays for "Tier 1" and "Tier 2" medications when filled at preferred pharmacies. This covers about 500 medications, including many generic medications used to treat conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and depression.
• Generous benefits to help seniors manage diabetes, with $0 copays for test strips through Lifescan, low insulin copays, and $0 copay for brand-name non-insulin drugs used to manage diabetes on some plans.
• Full coverage for six home safety products on most plans—double the amount of 2023’s plans—to support being safe and healthy at home.

UPMC for Life members have the additional support of a dedicated, award-winning** Health Care Concierge team, providing customized services, including medical appointment scheduling, assistance with digital health tool resources, and help to resolve coverage questions and concerns.

Medicare's annual open enrollment begins Oct. 15 and ends Dec. 7. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their 2024 coverage. MA plans offer benefits that are not offered with traditional Original Medicare.
