Michael Kinne was recently named vice president of strategic business development for government programs at UPMC Health Plan and the UPMC Insurance Services Division.
PITTSBURGH (Mar. 21, 2018) – Michael Kinne has been named vice president of strategic business development for government programs at UPMC Health Plan and the UPMC Insurance Services Division.
As UPMC Health Plan continues to expand its product offerings across Pennsylvania, Kinne will be responsible for leading business development efforts for government programs and overseeing state and federal public policy related to health care reform, regulation, and strategic planning specific to business development.
“As an experienced health care leader, Michael brings more than 25 years of expertise in Medicare and Medicaid along with a proven track record of launching market innovations,” said John Lovelace, president of government programs for UPMC Health Plan. “Throughout his career, he has excelled in developing creative growth and retention strategies for government health care products. His experience as both a provider and payer will be invaluable within UPMC’s integrated delivery and finance system.”

Prior to joining UPMC Health Plan, Kinne was the co-founder and president of NextLevel Health Inc., a Chicago-based Medicaid HMO with 80,000 members and $300 million in revenue, where he developed new initiatives that focused on accountable care, community-based care coordination, and Medicaid and Medicare service integration.
Throughout his career in health care, Kinne has also served in leadership roles at Centene Corporation, where he was president of the company’s IlliniCare Health Plan, as well as in key roles at VirtualHealth, Inc., Anthem, Inc., WellMed Medical Management LLC, and Aetna Inc.
Kinne has a bachelor’s degree in gerontology from Baylor University and has completed master’s degree work in gerontology and health administration at the University of Southern California.
