UPMC Health Plan Celebrates UPMC for Kids' 10th Anniversary

PITTSBURGH (November 21, 2016) – UPMC for Kids, Pennsylvania's largest Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), turned 10 this year. Four of its members are featured in a video produced for the celebration: Deijah, age 12, Dayonnia, age 14, members since 2007; Felicia, age 18, a member since 2009; and Trevor, age 7, a member since 2010.

"At this milestone anniversary, and in this season of Thanksgiving, we want to thank our members, providers and partner agencies who know that children need health insurance for a path to a lifetime of heath and that CHIP matters," said Patrick Tracy, Senior Director, CHIP. "We want families to know that the children and teens in Pennsylvania have access to quality and affordable health insurance coverage. We think the children featured in our anniversary video show how important building healthy habits are for their long-term health."

UPMC for Kids serves 35 counties in Pennsylvania and has more than 36,500 members and a 43.7 percent market share, the highest in its service area. Since its inception, UPMC for Kids has been busy covering the needs of all kids. We've provided coverage for more than 27,000 pairs of glasses, 170,000 well visits, 88,000 immunizations and 200,000 dental services. UPMC for Kids looks forward to continuing our efforts to keep Pennsylvania's children and teens healthy and strong in the years to come.

Any uninsured child up to age 19, regardless of family income, who is not eligible for Medical Assistance, can qualify for CHIP. There is no waiting list to enroll. For information on how to enroll a child in CHIP, call UPMC for Kids at 1-800-978-8762.
