UPMC for Life to Host National Senior Health & Fitness Day at Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

 

PITTSBURGH (May 23, 2016) – UPMC for Life members and anyone age 65 and over can receive complimentary admission to the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium for the 23rd annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

For the tenth consecutive year, UPMC for Life, the Medicare Advantage plan of UPMC Health Plan, is the Pennsylvania state sponsor for National Senior Health & Fitness Day. UPMC for Life will serve as host at four events around the state that day, including the one at the zoo. Nationally, more than 100,000 older adults will participate in health promotion events at more than 1,000 locations.

Visitors to the Pittsburgh Zoo event, which begins at 10 a.m., can receive free preventive services including blood pressure reading, lung function screening, and a bone density test. A pharmacist will be present to discuss prescription drugs. Health Care Concierges will be available to discuss UPMC for Life plan benefits and explain how members can join a participating fitness facility at no additional cost through our health and wellness program.

Entertainment includes a Zumba demonstration in the PNC Pavilion and karaoke singing. Participants can also meet the Farm Kings and learn about Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs that can help you stay healthy by eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

UPMC for Life is also hosting National Senior Health & Fitness Day events at the Penn State Altoona Slep Student Center in Altoona, Blair County, at the Consol Energy Park in Washington, Washington County, and at the UPMC Horizon Wellness Center in Mercer, Mercer County.
