PITTSBURGH (Jan. 6, 2015) –UPMC Health Plan is partnering with LifeSpan Inc., “Resources and Services for Seniors,” to provide older adults in Allegheny County with a variety of services and equipment designed to help them lead healthier and more active lives.
Grand opening events celebrating the partnership will be held this month at LifeSpan community centers located throughout the Pittsburgh region. As part of the partnership, UPMC Health Plan is providing services and supports that include health coaches, mobile screening services, exercise equipment, and health management programs.
Under the partnership, UPMC Health Plan will help LifeSpan implement evidence-based health management programs throughout the year at LifeSpan centers located in Bethel Park, Mon-Valley, Chartiers, and Knoxville. The partnership will help LifeSpan improve the health of its community through lifestyle changes that include fitness, nutrition management, health education, and health screenings.

Since its founding in 1973, LifeSpan, a non-profit organization, has been assisting Allegheny County adults over age 60 and their families by providing affordable, essential, and innovative services. LifeSpan serves older adults in ways that maintain their dignity and enrich their lives.
“LifeSpan is eager to continue to engage the services and expertise that UPMC Health Plan has made available at our four main community resource centers and also to the persons in our Meals on Wheels/Home Delivered Meals service,” said Virginia Jurofcik, Chief Executive Officer of LifeSpan. “Thanks to the support of UPMC Health Plan, we have secured state-of-the-art fitness equipment for our centers and have scheduled new programs in the next year that will promote healthy aging lifestyles.”
On Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, a grand opening event will be held at the Chartiers Resource Center, 300 Lincoln Ave., Carnegie, PA 15106. On Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, a grand opening will be held at the Mon-Valley @ Olympic Resource Center, 4313 Walnut Street, McKeesport, PA, 15132. On Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, a grand opening event will be held at the Knoxville Meals on Wheels, 320 Brownsville Road, Pittsburgh, PA. 15210. The events at all three locations will begin at 10 a.m.
