U.S. News & World Report
UPMC for Life was named a "Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage" in Pennsylvania for 2024 by U.S. News & World Report (10-20-23). U.S. News & World Report used the Medicare star ratings data for its rankings, including Medicare's recent five-out-of-five overall star ratings of both UPMC for Life's HMO and PPO plans for 2024. UPMC for Life has been named a "Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage" in Pennsylvania for 2022, 2023, and 2024.
For an insurance company to be eligible for the list of U.S. News & World Report's Best Insurance Companies for Medicare Advantage, all Medicare Advantage plans offered by the insurance company in that state had to be rated overall with at least three out of five stars by Medicare. U.S. News & World Report then averaged the Medicare star ratings for each of the eligible plans and those companies with an average overall rating of 4.5 or more stars earned recognition as a Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage.
Best Doctors
Nearly 400 UPMC physicians have been recognized as 2023 "Top Doctors" across more than 60 different specialties. These physicians are part of the Top Doctors® list, which is compiled by Castle Connolly. The Castle Connolly Top Doctor selection process is entirely merit-based. Doctors cannot pay to be listed. Castle Connolly’s peer-to-peer nominations and rigorous research process ensure only the most qualified physicians are included.

In addition to U.S. News & World Report’s ranking UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside number one in Pittsburgh, the hospital is nationally ranked in the following specialties:
UPMC Mercy earned U.S. News & World Report’s number seven spot in rehabilitation, marking the second consecutive year of landing in the top 10.
Numerous other UPMC hospitals earned regional recognition from U.S. News & World Report and were designated as high performing in specialty care.
UPMC Harrisburg is number 7 (tie) in Pennsylvania, number 2 in the Harrisburg metro area, and is recognized in South Central Pennsylvania. It is also high performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, orthopaedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology.
